Future Housing Development

Veteran Housing:  ECCDI is fortunate to offer Veteran Housing to Jacksonville. With the recent press about the lack of adequate housing and homelessness amongst the Veteran population, ECCDI ventured to solve this problem by securing funding from the NCHFA Supportive Housing Development Program.  ECCDI’s Meadow’s Gate affordable housing development had available land to develop for this venture.

The development, Compass Pointe at Meadow’s Gate, will break ground soon, offering eight (8) one-bedroom apartments of permanent, independent-living apartments for Veterans, who are disabled and/or homeless and earn below 30% of area median income. The development will break ground soon, offering eight (8) one-bedroom apartments of permanent, independent-living apartments for Veterans, who are disabled and/or homeless and earn below 30% of area median income.  The apartments will offer a bedroom, kitchen, living room, bathroom, laundry room, ample storage within an open floor plan design. Two of the ground floor units will be designed and constructed to be fully handicap accessible.   This new building will enhance the already established multi-family development, Meadow’s Gate Apartments, which ECCDI completed in 2010. ECCDI will be working in partnership with local organizations, such as Coastal Care, East Carolina Human Services Agency, Inc., and Family Endeavors.  Outreach and services from these organizations will help aid our Veteran residents at Compass Pointe, and attempt to break the cycle of Veteran homelessness.  In addition to providing support and stability, we expect this Veteran Housing venture to be a stepping stone to future housing needs for Veterans, while becoming a solution to this issue.

Affordable Housing from East Carolina Community Development Inc.Affordable Housing:  With the continued competitive nature of low-income housing tax credits in combination with geographic limitations, the number of affordable housing developments that can be funded within the four delineated areas of North Carolina is very restrictive and intense.  Furthermore, the significant competition from for-profit developers, have increased competition throughout the state. Therefore, in 2014, ECCDI expanded our development area to include the whole of North Carolina. Over the next three years, ECCDI plans to develop over $44 million in real estate, while monitoring over 800 units and adding 400 units to our portfolio.

ECCDI will continue to develop affordable housing communities for its low- to moderate-income and Veteran residents throughout North Carolina with sites already in the negotiation process. Presently, ECCDI is contemplating several development sites for affordable housing in the Central, South and Greater North Carolina service regions. Housing details related to ECCDI’s new housing developments will be updated as soon as funding is in place and construction begins.
