Staff

ECCDI employs two full time staff members. We are dedicated to improving and enhancing the standard of living of the people of North Carolina. ECCDI staff likes to get involved in the community and give back when we are able.

ECCDI Staff Volunteering Earth DayECCDI Volunteer Day

Annually, ECCDI offers its staff members the time to support a cause or project that they believe in outside of their family and business life. All ECCDI asks is that each staff member select another helping organization and help them for the day. This opportunity gives our staff members the chance to delve deeper into a social issue, by partnering with an organization, or group that they have an individual interest in being involved.  In the past some staff members have volunteered at the Beaufort Historical Association, Carteret County Humane Society, NC Coastal Reserve & National Estuarine Research Reserve, Crystal Coast Habitat for Humanity ReStore, Outer Banks Wildlife Shelter (O.W.L.S.), and the "Take a Kid Fishing" (TAKF) event.


Take A Kid Fishing

Staff participates in the annual TAKF event, whether it is helping on land or on the sea, baiting hooks, releasing fish, or flipping hotdogs & hamburgers.

We all have a great time helping “disadvantaged and disabled youth from all across the Carolinas with an opportunity to go saltwater fishing while teaching them about ethical fishing practices, conservation and our ocean environment.”

Each planting season, ECCDI staff enjoys digging in the dirt to eventually harvest the earth’s bounty.

ECCDI Earth Day

On Earth Day 2010, the ECCDI staff participated in building 4 raised vegetable/flower beds for the residents at Troon Apartments in Beaufort.

Keith is the founder, CEO & President of East Carolina Community Development Inc. (ECCDI) which was incorporated in 1995. He is the principal officer in charge of fulfilling the organizational mission of providing quality affordable housing throughout North Carolina and access to capital for small rural businesses. ECCDI has developed sixteen (16) housing developments in eastern NC and housed over 1,300 individuals. Since ECCDI’s inception, Keith has raised development capital in excess of $70 million for affordable housing and has overseen the lending of over $13 million in partnership with the USDA Rural Development loan programs. Keith has over 26 years’ experience in the non-profit management field and is a committed member of his community. Keith currently holds the Resource Development Chair position on the Board for the Arts in Beaufort NC, Inc., sits on the Board and the Governance Committee of the Carteret Community College Foundation in Morehead City, and is a member of the Morehead City Navigator Rotary Club and NC State Firefighters Association. He has participated in various other civic organizations such as, the Beaufort Fire Department, Cape Lookout Marine Science High School, Community Development Society, Duke Nonprofit Management Program, First Citizens Bank, NC Coastal Federation, and the NC Rural Economic Development Center. He attended college at SUNY at Buffalo, New York and holds an advanced certificate in Nonprofit Management from Duke University.

Kristen Sykes

Kristen joined ECCDI in November 2011 and serves as Asset Manager. She is responsible for overseeing ECCDI’s portfolio of affordable senior and multifamily properties to assure each one remains financially healthy, compliant with all funders’ regulatory requirements and remains a safe and attractive place to live. Kristen has prior experience in banking, where she worked within the Credit Administration department as a Credit Analyst. She holds a Masters of Business Administration, BBA in Trust and Investment Management, and a minor in Financial Planning from Campbell University. In October 2012, she earned her Certified Credit Compliance Professional Designation.
